What is Talesake?
Talesake is a family story app. Someone in the family asks for a story, and Mom, Dad, Grandma or Grandpa answers on video in their own words. The real clips are kept in one place, so the whole family can watch them now and for years to come.
How does it work?
Set up your family from your phone. It takes about two minutes. Then ask for a story, and the storyteller answers on video, chapter by chapter, on their own phone. Everyone in the family with a Family Pass can watch the clips on their phones.
Do I need to download an app?
No download needed. Talesake works in the web browser on your phone or tablet at app.talesake.com (Safari on iPhone and iPad, Chrome on Android). You can add it to your Home Screen so it opens like an app, and family members can also watch on a computer.
Can Grandma use it if she isn’t good with technology?
Yes. Someone else in the family can do the setup, and all she has to do is answer the questions in her own words. She can record on her own phone, or you can sit together and record on yours.
How much does Talesake cost?
Setup and your first chapter are free. Regular is $99 a year or $9.99 a month and includes 2 storytellers, unlimited family viewers and 50 GB of cloud storage. Premium is $149 a year or $14.99 a month and adds unlimited storytellers, 100 GB, cold storage for older videos and longer video replies. Extra storage is $30 a year or $3 a month for each 100 GB.
What can I do for free?
You can set up your family and record your first chapter for free. To record more stories after that, choose Regular or Premium. Everything you’ve already recorded stays yours to watch, share and download.
Can I give Talesake as a gift?
Yes. A gift is one payment for a year of Regular ($99) or Premium ($149). Buy a gift and we email you a printable gift card and code right after checkout, or we can email it straight to them on the day you choose. Gift codes never expire, the year starts when they open it, and gift purchases are final.
Can kids use Talesake?
Account holders, including everyone with a Family Pass, must be 18 or older. Kids can still appear in family recordings and can watch stories with a parent or guardian who has a Family Pass.
Can I download our videos?
Yes, anytime. Download all saves every story at full original quality, so you always have your own copy. It keeps working even if you cancel your plan.
What happens to our stories if we cancel?
You can cancel anytime in Settings, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. After that, your stories stay viewable and downloadable for good on a free view-only plan. You only need a plan again to record new stories.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, for plans. If you ask within 14 days of a plan charge, including a renewal, we’ll refund that charge in full. Just email us at [email protected]. Gift purchases are final and not refundable.
Who can see our family’s videos?
Only your family. The Family Keeper invites family members, approves every request to join, and can stop sharing any story at any time. Nobody at Talesake watches your family’s videos unless your family asks us to or the law requires it.
Is Talesake private and secure?
Your stories back up to the cloud automatically and are encrypted in transit and at rest. This is standard encryption, not end-to-end. We keep a protected recovery key on purpose, so we can help you get your stories back if you lose your phone. We never sell your family’s stories or use them to train AI.
Does Talesake use AI?
Only if your family wants it. Families can turn on an AI host: after an answer, it listens to the audio and asks a short follow-up question. It never gets your video, and it runs on Google’s paid Gemini service, which doesn’t use your stories to train Google’s models. The stories themselves are always the real recordings, with nothing made up or AI-generated.
What happens if Talesake ever shuts down?
We’ll email you at least 90 days before. You’ll get a one-click export of every story as plain MP4 video files that play anywhere, and your stories stay downloadable through the whole notice period. Read our full promise.
